The position provides communication support mainly to the CARE Australia Media team. The interpreter/ translator will accompany the team into the field and support them to translate discussions with community members, school children, personnel, etc.  The travel required be 8th – 12th March to Covalima and around the municipality; followed by 14th – 17th March to Baucau and around the municipality. The interpreter/ translator is responsible for ensuring that all essential communication, messages and any written information included are interpreted/ translated for the complete understanding and smooth communication between the Media Team and the project staff, project partners and project beneficiaries (including community members, school children, personnel, etc.).

Responsibilities and Tasks:


Responsibility # 1 (80%): Oral interpretation/ translation of verbal communications.


Ø  Provide interpretation/ translation for the media team during liaison and representation meetings with partners, government ministries, project beneficiaries, and donor relations and networking;

Ø  Provide interpretation for media team communication with other members of the project team;

Ø  Provide interpretation during interview include question and answer during the interview

Responsibility # 2 (20%): Written translation of documents


Ø  Provide written translation of any essential project or community written documents, which may include speeches, plans, or other written communications


Other Tasks:

The interpreter/translator shall perform other relevant tasks as assigned by the CARE Australia Media Team.



Ø  At least high school graduate, college level or baccalaureate degree an advantage


Ø  At least 1 year experience as a translator/interpreter

Ø  Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ø  Computer literate (MS Word/Excel, internet application)

Ø  Gender and cultural awareness and sensitivity

Ø  Attention to detail and an orderly approach to tasks
